Koin Coffee is Now Serving!

Koin Coffee is now serving at 325 N. Wiget Lane in Shadelands. Follow the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked breads to discover Shadelands' newest culinary cafe.

The highly anticipated Koin Coffee boutique coffee shop, the dream of co-owners Donna Allen and Tristyn Johnson, officially opened its doors at 325 N. Wiget Lane on Sunday, September 8, serving up hot craft coffees, cold blended drinks, specialty toasts, and freshly baked pastries that make you think, "I shouldn't," but you do!

Located in a large, airy, and brightly lit space next to Kaiperm Credit Union and along the path to and from Saturday’s popular Diablo Valley Farmers’ Market, Koin Coffee is open 7 days a week, 7am–4pm.

Koin Coffee co-owners Donna Allen (l) and Tristyn Johnson (r) celebrate the opening of their coffee shop in style—with a smoothie and a craft Brazilian coffee.

Among its wide variety of coffees (brewed and beans), Koin specializes in Brazilian coffee to accompany its pastries, homemade breads, high quality toasts, and other breakfast foods, along with lunch items, afternoon snacks, and specialty teas. Koin’s in-house baker uses seasonal, locally sourced ingredients for flavor and freshness.

The name ‘Koin’ was influenced by the word koinonia, meaning community and fellowship.

“As an independent, one-of-a-kind shop rooted in community,” said Tristyn, “we look forward to getting to know our customers, and sharing Koin as a gathering place for fun and fellowship, as a place where people can have quality face-to-face time with family and friends.”

Visitors to Koin Coffee enjoy coffee, food, and conversation together at the family-style tables and on the comfy sofa and armchairs against the wall. There are even vintage games available for kids and young-at-hearts.

Koin Coffee features handcrafted food and non-food items produced by local artisans, vendors, and small businesses to support and showcase their talent and creativity.

Donna and Tristyn are also planning to hold after-hours community events, and offer the space for rent for gatherings, book clubs, speakers, game nights, and other social events.

"The backbone of our philosophy is community," said Donna, "and for us, that means offering a space with comfortable chairs, tables and sofas—indoor, outdoor seating—where everyone can gather together, have moments of connection, and foster relationships, while enjoying a cup of craft coffee."

“We want people to say, ‘I feel good when I go there,’” said Tristyn. “We want them to say, ‘I leave with more than just coffee.’”

To Donna and Tristyn, the best things in life are those enjoyed together.
