With sincerest thanks to organizers, participants, exhibitors, and attendees, the 4th annual free, all-community Shadelands Made in the Shade festival was a huge hit, drawing more than 5,000 people from around the region for an afternoon of fun in the sun — and shade.

The Shadelands SportsMall was hopping — inside and out — on Sunday, November 3, a gorgeous autumn day in Walnut Creek, with individuals, families, and hundreds of children checking out exhibitor booths, sports activities, demonstrations, giveaways, face painting, food trucks, Calicraft microbrews, and the crowd-pleasing live music of Edgardo & Candela, the hugely popular, high energy San Francisco-based salsa band. On that warm afternoon, festival goers donned their Made in the Shade sunglasses and kept the Mr. Softee ice cream truck humming.

Shadelands' economic vitality and community spirit were on display as hundreds of introductions, connections, and friendships were launched among businesses, nonprofits, and neighbors.
